Subject: The Gibraltar monkey is the only wild ape in Europe that lives in freedom, specifically on the rock of Gibraltar. The most important populations are located in the mountains of Morocco, and in smaller numbers in Algeria. They inhabit oak forests, Atlas cedars and firs. They also populate rocky and Mediterranean understory biotypes. They are diurnal and preferably live on the ground. They form large groups that are socially well organized, led by a strong male. They therefore have their own hierarchies, habits and customs.
